The history of Älvtank

Älvtank is a company with its roots in tanker business going back to 1948 when the Donsö native Fridolf Jakobsson bought "Ramona" (125 dwt) with some other part owners. Although this was not Fridolfs first vessel, he had already owned two schooners named "Kristina", bought in 1922, and "Nanny", bought in 1930.

During the 1950s to 1990s the children of Fridolf took over the business, and in this period we mainly traded on the Swedish river "Göta älv" and the surrounding area. "Älv" is Swedish for "River", and this is the origin of our name, Älvtank.

In the 90s, with the next generation coming into the company, we acquired bigger vessels and started sailing more and more across northern Europe.

In 2004, together with Furetank, we built our first vessel, named after Fridolfs first tanker, "Ramona". She was then a corner stone of Älvtank for the next 20 years.

Today, Älvtank is owned and managed by the Jakobsson and Nilsson families, who is grandchildren of the founder, Fridolf Jakobsson. At present, the Älvtank fleet consists of three 18.000 dwt tankers, Ramanda, Ramelia & Ramira together with a co-owned SOV, Northern Ocean.
